What is Professional Social Work?
Professional Social Work, just like any other profession (Doctor, Lawyer, Chartered Accountant, Engineer, etc.,) is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility, and respect for diversity are central to Professional Social Work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities, and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance well-being.
In the Indian context, the concept of Professional Social Work is slowly catching up. Till a few decades back, social work in India was primarily Voluntary Social Work undertaken by Social Workers and politicians. Now social work in India is jointly done by Social Workers, Corporates, and the Government engaging Professional Social Workers in their Social Work Projects and governance.
Mohammad Ariff is a Professional Social Worker with a difference, equipped with the experience of over 30 years in Social Work, SDGs, CSR, HRM, etc. He is a Graduate in Social Work and he is involved in Social Work and other scientific research. He holds a Diploma in Travels Law and Management, a Certificate in Tourism Studies, a Certificate in Community Radio, and a Certificate in NGO Management. Mohammad Ariff is an Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) Operator with the Call Sign VU2HRF and has participated in many life-saving operations of Disaster Management.
Mohammad Ariff is presently the Center Director of the Artifex Education Guidance Center, the Counselling and Referral Center of Asian International University, and Sikkim Skill University.
Mr. Mohammad Ariff conducts regular counseling and therapy sessions along with other Professional Social Workers, Lawyers, Advocates, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and Psychoanalysts at his chambers listed on the left panel.
